Now in its 31ST YEAR, Artworks is a summer day camp in Oklahoma City for 8-12 year olds (must have completed 2nd grade) that focuses on the arts. We place a strong emphasis on process rather than product, which means Artworks is perfect for children with or without arts experience. By offering music, dance, visual art, theatre, and Lego™ robotics classes, we allow children to freely explore and discover their own interests and talents in a fun, relaxed, but richly educational atmosphere. We typically host 70-80 children each session representing most of the Oklahoma City metro area including Norman, Moore, Edmond, Shawnee, Mustang, Blanchard, Guthrie, Lexington, and many others.
Every child chooses a "major" class and two others, in which they spend about four combined hours each day. Games and a good ol' fashioned cookout with all the "fixins" are also part of the Artworks experience. Showcases for parents at the end of each session provide an opportunity for the students to display and perform what they have learned.
Artworks is a program of the Children's Arts Network, an independent non-profit organization that rents space at John Rex Elementary School, 500 W Sheridan Ave, in Oklahoma City for the duration of the camp. Three two-week sessions are held beginning in June. All Artworks activities are held in facilities that meet ADA requirements.
